Drivers see lower gas prices ahead of Independence Day

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 21:49:47 GMT

(NEXSTAR) – Now is the time to fill up your gas tank ahead of any Fourth of July travel.According to Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, the national average of July 4 gasoline prices will be $3.49, a discount of more than $1.30 compared with 2022.It’s a welcome change considering last year’s gas prices surged to more than $5 per gallon.“Much of COVID’s revenge travel is behind us, and thus far this summer, demand for gasoline has been softer than last year, helping to ease the pressure on gas prices,” De Haan said in a blog post.As Americans adapt to inflation and rising interest rates across the nation, De Haan said drivers are feeling “a bit more sluggish” about driving during the summer, resulting in lower gas prices. “We may continue to see average prices moderate, especially closer to Labor Day, barring hurricanes or other unexpected refinery outages, with steeper price drops coming after summer. But for now, it’s still not a bad time to get outsi...

BALTIMORE — When Rocco Baldelli wrote Carlos Correa’s name in at the top of the lineup on Friday, the shortstop became the 11th Twin to fill that role this season. That’s the most in Major League Baseball, as the Twins have moved things around trying to find something that would stick. The manager said he had been thinking about moving Correa there for quite some time, and now he seems inclined to move forward with it for the time being.“Before you do something with one of your best players, one of your big guys that they’ve never done before, you don’t just on a whim start doing random stuff with those guys, but I think we reached a pretty good point to just make any sort of bold decision that we’ve been thinking about and that was one of them,” Baldelli said.Baldelli did tell Correa right before he made the move, letting him know that they had some plans to hit him leadoff. He was met by a receptive response from the shortstop.“He asked me. I said, ‘Whatever’s best for the team, I’...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — That trio of Texas infielders and the switch-hitting catcher selected as starters for the All-Star Game might not be the only Rangers players going to Seattle later this month. Their top pitcher could be joining them there. Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven scoreless innings to become the American League’s second 10-game winner, and each of those four position players voted in by the fans had a hand in runs as the AL West-leading Rangers beat the second-place Houston Astros 5-2 on Saturday. “I’ve seen him throughout my entire career. … Just a lot of different ways to attack hitters righty and lefty. And it’s hard to have an approach against him. And I know that from facing him,” All-Star second baseman Marcus Semien said of Eovaldi. “It’s been fun to play behind him because he works quick. He gets groundballs, gets out of innings with double plays. He gets strikeouts.”Eovaldi (10-3) struck out five and limited the Astros to two singles while working ar...
