Williamson County elections employee fired after votes go uncounted

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said a county elections employee has been terminated after a programming error resulted in 18 votes on a sales and use tax election going uncounted.Gravell said the error was limited to voters deciding on a proposition in Emergency Services District #9 which serves the Round Rock and Leander area.He said the voters affected all live in a part of the county that was annexed into ESD #9 back in 2021 which was not properly programmed into the ballot system.According to the ESD's website, if the prop is passed it would allow the district to increase the revenue it gets from certain parts of its coverage area by 2%.Accompanied by Williamson County Sheriff Mike Gleason and attorney for ESD #9 Ken Campbell, Gravell said a voter brought this to the county's attention after they noticed they did not have the proposition on their ballot.Gravell said the county has checked other elections on the ballot and that no similar i...

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Austin Board of Realtors said Thursday international buyers remain interested in investing in the Central Texas housing market.The Central Texas International Homebuyers report from ABoR said international buyers purchased $609 million in residential real estate between April 2022 through March 2023. That is similar to the level seen in the same period in 2021-22 ($613 million). United Airlines flight attendants picket outside Austin airport

AUSTIN (KXAN) – United Airlines flight attendants in Austin on Thursday took part in an international effort to negotiate a new contract with the airline. Dozens of flight attendants picketed as part of a "day of action" from their union, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA). According to the union, similar pickets took place in nearly 20 airports around the world. A busy summer pushes United Airlines to a $1.14 billion profit, but fuel cost will hurt 4Q results United reported on Oct. 17 that revenue was $14.5 billion in the third-quarter of 2023, that is up 12.5% compared with the same period in 2022. Albany man arrested in bank robbery

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man was arrested on Thursday following a bank robbery at the Key Bank located at 561 New Scotland Avenue. Jason Tillery, 29, is charged with third-degree robbery. On Thursday, around 9:15 a.m., Albany Police responded to Key Bank, located at 561 New Scotland Avenue for reports of a robbery. Upon arrival, an employee told officers that an individual approached the counter, and passed a note saying give me all the money. The employee did so and the suspect fled with an undetermined amount of cash.Shortly after, patrol officers saw a man in the area of Turner Place and Whitehall Road believed to be involved in the robbery and stopped him. The suspect, identified as TIllery, was arrested and is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court.

Two injured in Albany Broad Street shooting

(NEWS10) -- Two people were injured following a shooting in the area of Broad Street and Alexander Street in Albany Thursday evening around 4:50 p.m. Police say two victims were shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Shortly after, a 25-year-old victim was reportedly being treated for a gunshot wound at Albany Medical Center in the same shooting. On Tuesday (24 October) the Environment Committee adopted its position on measures to ensure sustainable pesticides use and reduce the use and risk of all chemical pesticides by at least 50 % by 2030, ENVI.In the text adopted with 47 votes to 37 and 2 abstentions, MEPs say that by 2030, the EU must reduce the use and risk of chemical plant protection products by at least 50% and the use of so-called “more hazardous products” by 65%, compared to the 2013-2017 average. The Commission proposed a 50% target for both based on the 2015-2017 average.MEPs want each member state to adopt national targets and strategies, based on the substances sold per year, their hazard level and the size of their agricultural area.
