Ventura police officer fatally shoots off-leash dog A police officer in Ventura shot and killed a dog that was off leash and apparently had tried to bite him early Thursday, authorities said.The incident occurred around 4 a.m. while officers was on routine patrol along Ash Street.The dog was not leashed and “immediately headed toward” the direction of the officers, police detailed in a news release.“As the dog approached one of the officers, it circled behind him, and attempted to bite him. The officer attempted to avoid the dog however it continued aggressing him,” according to police. “The officer drew his service weapon and fired several rounds at the dog striking the dog several times.”The dog died at the scene.The dog, described as a 45-pound Belgian Malinois mix, had apparently bitten a female at Plaza Park on April 9.At the time, the owner was cited for having the dog off leash during the encounter.Authorities reminded dog owners that they are responsible for having their pets leashed anytime they are on a public street, alley...

K9 officer sniffs out narcotics in Livermore traffic stop (KRON) -- A K9 officer alerted officers to a large cache of narcotics and drug-selling paraphernalia during a traffic stop Tuesday, the Livermore Police Department tweeted. Just after 7 p.m., police stopped a black Dodge Magnum for a vehicle code infraction near Arroyo Road and Robertson Park.Police found a prescription bottle containing 42 morphine pills while searching the car. The pills were not prescribed to the vehicle's driver, who was the sole occupant. Man accused of holding woman in cinder block cell lived in Bay Area A lockbox was also located. Police deployed K9 officer Max who sniffed the lockbox and alerted them to the presence of narcotics. Inside the lockbox, police found a large amount of bags, a scale, two scoopers, and 190 oxycodone pills in a single press bag.Matthew Sedra, 39, of Livermore, was arrested on charges that included the selling or transporting of a controlled substance.
